Social Justice Institute with Alexa McDonough
November 12, 13 - Friday 7 pm - Saturday 4 pm

Join Alexa McDonough, former national leader of the New Democratic Party and
current NDP critic for foreign affairs and post-secondary education, in this
reflection on the struggle for social justice both regionally and globally.
Deepen your understanding of the issues facing us nationally and
internationally. Learn of new strategies for democratic social change being
put into place in other parts of the world.

The leadership team for this event includes Maria Recchia, Quaker,
environmentalist, and organic gardener. She works with fishing communities
on community-based management initiatives and is a member of the
Tatamagouche Centre's Program Resource Group.

This event is especially for community, labour, religious leaders and
activists attempting to live out their ideals. A networking and rejuvenating
opportunity not to be missed!

Did you know:
·         When she was only 14, Alexa displayed an early-blooming social
conscience when she led a church group that made national headlines by
drawing attention to squalid living conditions in the black Halifax
neighbourhood known as Africville.
·         When Alexa became leader of Nova Scotia's New Democrats in 1980,
at the age of 36, she became the first woman to lead a recognized political
party in Canada.
