(1) EAC & PROJECT UPDATES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
STEER CLEAN is launching soon!
The Transportation Issues Committee is excited to announce
its latest program. "Steer Clean" will provide incentives for
folks in HRM to recycle their old, polluting cars and replace
them with cleaner alternatives! We are currently looking for
volunteers to help conduct surveys. Or, if you have an old car
(pre-1994) and would like to participate in a 15-20 minute
phone survey, let us know. Steer Clean's public launch is
planned for this spring. Contact Heather or Maggy at 446-4840
or steerclean@ecologyaction.ca
FIVE NEW NATURE RESERVES established
- one Green Plan commitment honoured
Environment Minister Kerry Morash has announced five new
Nature Reserves totalling 1,700 hectares in size. This fulfills one
important commitment in the government's recently released
"Green Plan". The new Nature Reserves are located at Spinneys
Heath; Great Barren and Quinan Lakes; Quinns Meadow in
Yarmouth County; Duncans Cove in Halifax County; and
MacFarlane Woods in Inverness County. We applaud those
involved, and look forward to seeing the promised Protected
Wilderness Areas of Gully Lake and Eigg Mountain-James River
soon, in order to fulfill the second major commitment in the
"Green Plan". The Ecology Action Centre is leading the effort
for more and better protection of our public land in Nova Scotia.
BETWEEN THE ISSUES MAGAZINE - help get it out across Nova Scotia!
The EAC's quarterly magazine, Between the Issues, has been
redesigned and will be published within a few weeks. Can you
help distribute it in your neighbourhood, workplace or school?
Would you like to write, illustrate, photograph or otherwise
contribute to the next edition? Has your address changed
or your membership expired? Call Peter at the EAC,
(902) 429-2202, or e-mail to:
Between the Issues: betweentheissues@ecologyaction.ca
Membership: membermail@ecologyaction.ca
Back Issues: http://www.ecologyaction.ca/publications.shtm
THANK YOU -- CHEMICAL-FREE Tree & Wreath Fundraiser
We would like to thank everyone who supported the EAC's
annual Chemical-Free Christmas Tree and Wreath fundraiser.
Thanks to our customers and volunteers, we were able the
raise $4,000. This money will be critical to the operation of
the Centre as a whole and is urgently needed every year.
The trees also attracted national media attention. We hope
you enjoyed your trees and wreaths, and look forward to
seeing everyone again next year!  http://www.ecologyaction.ca
and design better respond to energy use, outdoor activity and
year-round active transportation, regardless of the weather?
