HALIFAX LETS PARTNERED WITH EAC FOOD ACTION COMMITTEE

There is now a Local Exchange Trading System (LETS) in Halifax!

Halifax LETS is a thriving barter network that is socially
inclusive, ecologically sustainable and that allows members to meet
their basic needs.

We are partnered with the Ecology Action
Centre through the Food Action Committee (FAC). This partnership will
ensure that we keep a strong focus on local food!

It works like this: You offer a service or goods for exchange. When
another member receives those services or goods, you get a credit
that you can use to obtain services or goods from any other members.
It's like bartering stoked up!

There are hundreds of these systems around the world. There are many
philosophical and practical benefits. These benefits include:

1. Increase in localized trading - leading to reduced transportation
costs
2. Reduced reliance on global economy where cheap products are often
produced in environmentally/socially unsustainable ways
3. Community building and networking.
4. Trading skills that many newcomers can not yet trade in the formal
job market (eg. professional skills) for local currency they can use
for other goods and services
5. Entrepreneurs have access to a captive market and get free or low
cost advertising

and lots more! (eg. increase market for local foods, increase reuse
of goods and materials etc).
