HRM Regional Plan Coordinator

The Ecology Action Centre is seeking a part-time
Coordinator to lead the EAC's response to HRM's Regional
Planning Process and to encourage public participation in
the process. In fall, HRM's proposed Regional Plan is being
presented for to HRM Council and the public. Several
elements of the plan address important environmental
issues, such as green space preservation, urban sprawl,
and transportation infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

* Familiarize herself/himself with the Regional Planning
process and documents
* Consult with EAC employees and volunteers, HRM
employees, Councillors, etc.
* Coordinate EAC communications with HRM Council
(e.g. meetings), the public (e.g. letters to editor) and the
media (e.g. press releases)
* Plan and execute EAC policy response and related
actions

Desired Skills and Experience:

* Strong interest in environmental and planning issues
* Familiarity with HRM's Regional Planning Strategy
and process
* Strong communication skills, including public speaking
* Experience working with the media
* Strong organizational and administrative skills
* Experience in public education and advocacy
* Computer literacy in MS Office, including Word, Excel,
FrontPage
* Experience working in an NGO environment, and
* Persistent, diplomatic, optimistic approach

Duration: September 12, 2005 - December 16, 2005

Wage: $15/hour; 9 hours/week on average

Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
