Hi folks,
just saw this on last weeks Nova Scotia Designer Crafts Council newsletter and realized I hadn't seen anything about it on sust-mar so thought to pass it along. It's such a great spot, wonder if there's anyone out there who could help the city see why it might make an excellent site for a cohousing neighbourhood/community centre....

Bloomfield Centre Update:
HRM intends to close the doors of the Bloomfield Centre and dispose of the property,
which has been in public use since the mid-1800s. Once public space is lost, it does not
reappear. No where east of Montreal is such a diverse group of community users, artists,
seniors, environmentalists, and non-profit organizations to be found in cooperative co-
existence in one accessible place. The decision on the future of Bloomfield will go to
Council Oct 2005. HRM Recreation staff closed the Commons Bldg due to mould and
structural conditions brought on by neglect. Tenants, including 15 artists and the
Citadel Boxing Club) were locked out of the building, and despite some air quality
remediation, have not been allowed back in the building. An acting Executive was formed
in Aug, with the following officers: Juan-Carlos Leyton-Canales, Co-Chair 453-5510

Sept 14 - George Dixon Centre, 2501 Gottigen St., from 6:30 to 8 pm
Sept 21 - Isleville Centre, 3460 Isleville St., from 6:30 to 8:30 pm
Sept 28 - Bloomfield Centre, 2786 Agricola St., from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
HRM staff is determined to close the Centre, but visible public support will prevent
this. Come-bring your kids, your grandmother, your friends, anyone who has a stake in
seeing this amazing Centre of resources continue!
