Introduction

The Windsor Junction Community Centre is located on Third Lake just off Windsor Junction Road. (Mailing Address: 38 Community Centre Lane, Windsor Junction, NS B2T 1W6 phone 861-4976). It has a guarded beach, a playground, two ballfields, and a club house.

The centre's outstanding staff oversees many fun and beneficial programs, including sports camps, day camps, and swimming programs.

Programs

Windsor Junction Community Centre Day Camp
(Program for children ages 5-12, Day camp runs July 2- August 31)
Day campers participate in games and activities, make crafts, and sing and dance. In the afternoons day campers have the opportunity to swim, build sand castles and play. Day Camp provides an excellent opportunity for children to make new friends, learn about teamwork and have an active, healthy outdoor summer experience.
NOTE: The WJCC offers an EPA for children that require extra attention/one-on-one interaction. Please contact the Program Director for more information.

Typical Day at Camp
7:30 - 9:00 a.m.Free Supervised Time
9AM - Noon Organized games (The WJCC splits into two groups 5-7 year olds; and 8-12 year olds)
Noon - 1:00 Lunch (day campers are asked to bring their lunch daily)
1 - 4:30 Organized games and activities at the beach
4:30 - 6:00 Free Supervised Time

Day Camp is open from 7:30 - 6PM on a drop-in basis. Day campers are allowed to attend camp for a maximum of 8 hours per day. Each camper must be registered for Day Camp and signed in and out by a parent or designated guardian each day.

*For families with more than two children, the third + child's cost is a maximum of $30 per week.

Junior Leaders

Volunteer and Leadership program for youth ages 13-15
Junior Leaders have the opportunity to volunteer with our Day Camp, assist with Swimming Lessons and learn standard first-aid and CPR. Field Trips and a Junior Leadership campout weekend are highlights of the program. Participants develop skills in responsibility, leadership, communication and team-building. Great opportunity to make new friends. This is a fun program for teens looking to get more involved in the community. Junior Leaders have meetings every Tuesday and Thursday from 2 p.m. - 3 p.m.

Swimming Lessons: Each Swimming Lesson session is two weeks in duration, and run Monday through Friday MORNINGS. For children ages 5+, the WJCC follows the Red Cross Swim Kids Program Level 1-10. For Children under the age of 5 the WJCC has a Swim Tots program. Adult and private lessons are also available.

Lessons throughout the summer will be cancelled if there is chance of thunder showers. If the forecast is just rain please call the WJCC building 861-4976 or check our blogspot where we update swimming lesson notices each day.

Swim Patrol: Rookie, Ranger, Star: Advanced swimming programs for children ages 8+ who are have completed Swim Kids level 7 or higher. Monday through Friday mornings- these classes feature endurance swimming, provide first-aid and rescue skills, and develop swimming strength and efficiency.

You can sign up for swimming lessons at anytime during the summer. Feel free to call the office or stop by the office the Friday BEFORE the session starts as this is when the new schedule is completed.

Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross Programs
Pre-lifeguarding, first-aid and rescue programs for youth ages 13+. Candidates must be accomplished swimmers, i.e. completed Swim Kids Level 10. Completion of these courses includes a final practical exam.

Junior Guards Excellent program for youth ages 8-15 that includes: fitness, rescue skills, first-aid, swimming and other water activities. Each summer the Junior Guards have the opportunity to participate in competitions across Nova Scotia against other Junior Guard teams. This is a fun program to learn new skills, build friendships and develop those hidden leadership skills. Junior Guards meet every Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 2 p.m. - 4p.m.
