Nov. 22, 2009 - Halifax photographer Angela Carlsen has a thing for abandoned buildings and that includes our currently empty old school. You can see some interesting photos on Angela's web site. And in News and Views you can read a story on classmate Bill Gibson. Bill, who used to do our morning devotions at QEH, is a minister now, one of several among our classmates from 1971. I wonder if there's any atheists out there to add balance (I know of at least one). Also in News and Views there's a photo of Gary Sellon receiving an award from the province.

Sept. 20, 2009 - Kathryn Edgett was recently contacted about an upcoming fundraiser for Citadel High School. For you out-of-towners Citadel High is the school that replaced QEH and St. Pats. The new school was built with a shell for an auditorium but there wasn't enough money to finish it. Kathryn is thinking we could have our own reunion party in conjunction with this event and, at the same time, make them some money and have fun. More details are on the News and Views section. Also in News and Views you can meet The Podfather and connect to a tribute to one of our absent classmates, Bill Dompierre.

Aug. 13, 2009 - Condolences to classmate Judy MacLean whose brother, Bruce Moulton, died on Aug. 10. Many of us will remember Bruce, who graduated from QE in 1969, as a member of the school's basketball team and for his many other school-related endeavours. I've also added classmate Bill Dompierre to our Absent Friends section. Bill died on Aug. 9.

June 14, 2009 - Matt Hebb, son of 71er Tessa Hebb (nee Thorne), was the manager of the successful NDP election campaign in Nova Scotia. I recently made contact with Victor Goldberg and you can, too, in our Trackdown section. Also, you can read Bryan Wood's latest exploits in our News and Views section.

With vacation season fast approaching some of you who have moved away may be coming back for a visit. If so, let us know. Perhaps we can hook up and talk old times. I've also included a new Guestbook in case those just passing through want to leave a comment.

May 28, 2009 - Congratulations to classmate Gary Sellon who retired today after35 years with the provincial transportation department. Although I didn't know Gary at QEH I have worked with him these past four years at Transportation and have always found him to be real gentleman.

With summer approaching perhaps some of you out-of-towners are thinking of coming home for a visit. If so let us know and perhaps we can hook you up with an old friend or two.

May 6, 2009 - We had a visit from Dave Swetnam (Class of 69) who helped us fill in the names for Phi Delta Phi Hi-Y. Dave says the Class of 69 is planning a 40 year reunion in June and he will be setting up a website soon. Also got a note from Wilson King who found a photo from his Cornwallis Junior High days which he forwarded to us because many future 71ers are illustrated. Both of these photos are posted in our Memory Lane section.

Feb. 15, 2009 - Thank you to Kathryn Edgett who dropped off a 1971 of the QEH Students' Directory. I only had a 1968-69 copy of this so it was fun to look at Kathryn's. Can you imagine printing the addresses and phone numbers of teachers today? They'd all need police protection. I was also surpised to see that the directory had the wrong address and phone number for me. That must be the reason that no girls ever called me!

Kathryn also enclosed a copy of Beth's News and Views from Nov. 3, 1967. Although this was a year before any of us were in QEH it's still interesting to see the style and some of the familiar names. I've posted the front page of this issue in the Memory Lane column of the Then and Now page. I really enjoyed the back page ad of CHNS DJ Eric McEwan who was the epitome of 1967 cool with a Monkees "Headquarters" LP and wearing his Big Kahuna jeans (only $8.95 at Eaton's).

I've also been fiddling around with statistics from our web site counter and I thought you might be interested in seeing a representation of our site visits on a map. As you can see at the time I captured this graphic we had 1,261 visits from 84 cities. Many of these, I'm sure, are accidental tourists- surfers who stumble upon us and quickly depart- but there are others who stay to look around. For example someone from Las Vegas stayed on long enough to visit 11 pages and another from Taos, New Mexico stayed on the site for almost half an hour (maybe they fell asleep over the keyboard, I do that all the time). Anyway, keep talking it up and perhaps we'll make a breakthrough into Russia or Australia.

Jan. 28, 2009 - Unfortunately we've learned of some more deceased classmates, Greg Cutts, Karen Dominaux, and Bruce Murphy. Their photos are in the Absent Friends section along with a link to Bruce's obituary.

Jan. 27, 2009 - Welcome to Les Grieve who has joined us from Calgary, Alberta. You can read more about him in our Catching Up and Then and Now sections. Les is in contact with many other QEHers and I'm hoping we'll make some new contacts.

Jan. 17, 2009 - This latest flurry of activity has netted us a visit from Peter Greenwood who has provided a family photo and information for our Catching Up section. Peter says: "I've had a ball reading the web page and catching up on some old friends....I will encourage twin sister, Jane, Les Grieve, Roy Gaetz, Ken Johnston and a few others to send you a note as well." Peter also provided a photo of Jane and her husband, Bill Cooley, that I have posted in the Trackdown section.

Jan. 16, 2009 - Our condolences to Ellen Stewart whose mother, Joyce, died on Jan. 3. Also condolences to Kathryn Edgett who just returned from Scotland where she attended the funeral of her father-in-law.

Doug Stuewe and grandson
Doug and Avery
Jan. 14, 2009 - It has been some time since my last posting and I apologize for the delay. An aborted cruise, a trip to Albuquerque, and the holiday season have all combined to keep me out of cyberspace for the past couple of months. I had lunch with Doug Stuewe during the holidays as he was in town to visit family and friends. Doug has joined the grandparent ranks and was proudly flashing pictures of grandson Avery. I've added the obituary for Bob Douglas to our News and Views section and I've finally put together an "Absent Friends" section as we discussed earlier in the year. I've also done some updating of the Trackdown section and added some personal stories to the Links page. Return to Main Page
