The Oliphants of Gask were ardent Jacobites. Laurence Oliphant of Gask and his eldest son were attainted for their part in the Jacobite Rising of 1745.

Lady Nairne (Carolina Oliphant), a famous Scottish poetess, was of the Gask family. She was named Carolina in honour of Prince Charlie.
