Headlands: User Profiles

We need new submissions! If you have (or know of) a web site on CCN that you think that should be in here, let Mike Cormier know about it!

What's a User Profile?

When people first get their CCN accounts, one of the things they may want to do is add to their Profile page, and then learn this HTML thingamabob. Sometimes people get inspired to make something Big ... make something that people would actually want to read, and put it up. This column is to highlight some of the best of these Profiles and Home Pages on CCN. If you think this sounds like your CCN Home Page, tell me about it and I'll give it a look.

Resources

Robert Cormier's Web Page  <cormier>  Robert Cormier has put lots of time into the Chebucto Community Net's French version, Réseau communautaire Chebucto. Take a look at his French links section and then take a look at Réseau communautaire Chebucto.

Commission de réforme du droit de la Nouvelle-Écosse  This site offers contents in three languages - English, French and Mi'kmaq - and was nominated for the 1995 Best Legal Resource in the Canadian Internet Awards. Its web master is Chris Majka, the CCN Editor-In-Chief.

Communautés bahá’íes du Grand Halifax  The Baha'i Community's French home page is dedicated to the memory of Katherine Elizabeth Manchester - courageous soul, dedicated friend, and much loved sister.

Tai Chi de style Yang  In August 1998 Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan was selected as one of the Shaolin Wahnam Top Sites on the Internet. In May 1996 the Yang Style Tai Chi Web site was reviewed and rated a 10 out of 10 by the LynxOfTheWeekList(tm). This site is also run by Chris Majka.

Fédération canadienne des sociétés orchidophiles  In July 1997 the Canadian Orchid Congress was selected as a Starting Point Hot Site. In April 1996 the Canadian Orchid Congress was awarded the three star Magellan award by the McKinley Group.

Links

JodiLee Strowbridge  <aj993>  Over the past couple of years I have watched Jodi's web site grow; it now has links to almost everything you have ever heard of. This is also the most organized link page I have seen in a long time! Take a look.

Mike Cormier [My Page] <aq421>  Over the past 2 years Mike has started to build his web site up to what it is now. Mike's page features links to the many other web pages he does, including Metro Transit 2 here on CCN. Mike is also the editor of the Windows 95/98/NT Public Download Area here on CCN.

Tips

If you decide to spruce up your Profile page, there's some things you should remember. You can't just write the file like you would write a document in a word processor. You have to write it in a format called HTML.

If you primarily use Netscape or Internet Explorer to surf the net, don't forget it's a good idea to make sure your page also works on Lynx, the text-only browser that CCN uses. This is not only for the benefit of people on CCN but also people on other community nets, university students with text-only dialup accounts, people with slower modems surfing with their images turned off and anyone using a text-to-speech reader. Read these tips on how to make your Profile Lynx compatible. If you use Lynx, try to make sure that your Profile looks good with Netscape and IE too. (If you have the chance.)

Special Thanks this edition to Mr. Robert Cormier (no relation).
