High School of Stirling

Welcome to the High School of Stirling, Scotland.

This provisional world wide web site for the school was set up in early 1995 by a former pupil, Alasdair McKay, to help maintain the spirit of the school motto and to ensure that the High School fell to no lower a place than the second of Scottish Schools to have a presence on the Internet. (The distinction of being first is held by Graeme High.) Now work on Web pages is being carried out at the school and current information about Stirling High is available there.

The 12th century origins make this school one of the most ancient in the land. Its former locations on the Castle Rock put it physically close to many of the more famous incidents of Scottish history - particularly those of the late 13th and early 14th century wars of independence and the late 16th century dynastic crisis. Now in the late 20th century, the High School shares this history with the other Stirling Schools and, with them, prepares for another 900 years of service to the community in accordance with its motto "tempori parendum" (act in accordance with the dictates of the times).

School History

In 1962, when the school moved from the Castle Rock to Torbrex, Miss Jessie Thomson, then head of the history department, summarised the school's fortunes over the many preceding centuries in an essay published for the occasion. What follows is extracted from her work. link to history
