About 1000 years ago in China, Tozan and Sozan were chatting. As they were Zen masters whose teachings eventually formed the basis of the T'sao-t'ung school now known in Japan as "Soto" somebody was keeping notes.


Once Tozan asked Sozan, "Where are you going?"
Sozan said, "To an unchanging place."
Tozan said, "If it's unchanging, how could there be any going?"
Sozan said, "Going, too, is unchanging."
