" All Day All Gay Spectacular "

As a part of CKDU's day of focused programming, I did this special edition of Over the Rainbow, where I explored the connection between gay culture and musical theatre -- how did an art form in which the dominance of heterosexual love over all obstacles become so identifiable with gay culture?

I read several excerpts from this excellent essay on the concurrent development of modern gay culture and musical theatre: Our Love Is Here To Stay.

I played:

" Keep it gay " from The Producers

" I can change " from the soundtrack of South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut

" Over the rainbow " from the soundtrack of The Wizard of Oz

" Two gentlemen of Verona " from Two Gentlemen of Verona

" I can cook too " performed by Lea Delaria from On the Town

" Waitin' for the light to shine " from Big River

" Bring on the men " performed by Linda Eder from Jekyll & Hyde

" Children of the revolution " from the soundtrack of Moulin-Rouge

" Oh, how I hate to get up in the morning " performed by Irving Berlin

" White boys " from the soundtrack of Hair

" Sodomy " from the soundtrack of Hair
