Fin Assembly

The fin is presently complete to the pre-closing inspection stage, it will be inspected when the remaining sections requiring pre-closing inspection are ready. Construction of the fin was straight forward and builds on the the skills required to proceed to other components.

Fin assembly jigging.
The fin was built using fixtures which mounted to the top & bottom ribs using clecos rather than supporting the components on wooden blocks as suggested. This permitted quick and accurate fixturing when the fin was turned over several times during assembly.

Rear Spar Fix

Horn Clearance

Not mentioned in the builders manual, the rear spar must be clearanced to permit rudder travel of about 25 to 35 degrees (per side). The notch leaves about .50" of the spar depth remaining.

Horn Clearance

This image shows the rudder at full travel to the right. This Elite is being built as a tri-gear so the mounting brackets for the tail wheel are omitted.

Completion
