Initial Assembly of Fin components at the far end of the table. Note the Elevator in progress to
the left on the same table.
Fin internals ready for inspection.
The fin was built using fixtures which mounted to the top & bottom ribs using clecos rather
than supporting the components on wooden blocks as suggested. This permitted quick and
accurate fixturing when the fin was turned over several times during assembly.
Not mentioned in the builders manual, the rear spar must be clearanced to permit rudder
travel of about 25 to 35 degrees (per side). The notch leaves about .50" of the spar depth remaining.
This image shows the rudder at full travel to the right. This Elite is being built as a
tri-gear so the mounting brackets for the tail wheel are omitted.
Fin and rudder mounted on a fixture for storage while awaiting inspection.
