Metro Community Access Network Society
Board of Directors Meeting
June 23, 1994
8:00-10:30 @ Peter Henry's Home

Attending: Kevin Nugent, Rand Cooper, Joan Brown-Hicks, Renee
Davis, David Murdoch, Laura Jantek, Peter Henry, David Trueman.

Not in attendance: Dave Towers, Ellen Sherlock, Carlos Freitas,
Tony Lamport.

The next meeting of the board was set for June 28 @ 7:15pm at
Joan's home.

Our cashflow situation was discussed. The co-chairs and vice-chair
will go to the Bank of Montreal to have their signatures recorded.

David Murdoch moved that Kevin Nugent be sent as and official
delegate of MetroCAN to the Ottawa conference in August. Seconded
by **umm!!** No opposing votes cast. Motion passed.

Joan will likely obtain funding from the library to attend as well.
David Trueman will be at the conference for one day.

Demo: Done at Dalhousie by David T. and Joan B-H. The reception
was good from the representatives of the city of Dartmouth. They
discussed what kind of support the freenet is asking to receive.
The presentation and discussion lasted about a half hour.

Some MT&T representatives will be given a demo on the 28th at
10:00am. David and Peter will be there.

A demo is being arranged at Dal for Todd Brown, Bruce Findlay, and
Mike Chisolm. It will be Wednesday the 29th at 9am. No word on
when Dr. Savage can be convinced to come.

MP'S/MLA'S: The house of commons dismisses for the summer today.
This is seen as an opportunity to contact local MP's to come to a
demo. I will try to contact Ron McDonald; David T. will contact
Geoff Regan; and Joan B-H will contact Mary Clancy.

The seniors expo will be July 15 at the WTCC. Someone from
MetroCAN might want to attend.

Halifax PD: will be coming to a demo in the near future. Joan will
followup with them.

A communication package needs to be available to bring to demos and
presentations. David T. noted that Ellen needs a rest so that she
can concentrate on her new home, so the job of making the modules
of a communication package will have to be divvied up. A set of
fact sheets will be made up and available for assembly into custom
packages to fit the audience at any given demo.

Peter Henry will print the material once it is prepared.

The letter from Sun Microsystems referring to the use of their
equipment was discussed. David T. will maintain the dialogue with
them.

An offer from MT&T cellular was discussed briefly with no decision
being made.

The latest letter to Art Batiste was sent on Friday. Joan will
follow up on this.

David T. suggests that it is important for us to establish a real
dialogue with the government. Options were discussed on how to
continue this.

Jerry Clark of United Way will be contacted by Joan once we know
when Todd B. can come.

Renee Davis suggested that we change the rigidity of the Phone #
requirements during registration. We must also have a mechanism
for acknowledging comments on the system.

Rand C. wants access to the database for contact information
purposes.

Daily News was discussed.

David T. will followup on the subscriber agreement with NSTN.

Joan wondered about finding money to sponsor a talk by Jim
Carroll, author of the Canadian Internet Handbook(?)

The need for more phone lines was discussed along with the cost of
providing same. Two more will be ordered immediately.
