Community networking is the real cutting edge of the electronic revolution. Every day we hear more and more about electronic highways, networking, cyberspace... The real question is, how do ordinary people get connected? FreeNets offer one solution. From its start in the 1980's, the Cleveland Free-Net has inspired many other projects. The concept has now become an international phenomenon, with Free-Nets in Finland, New Zealand and Canada. Where do we go from here? The National Capital Freenet, in association with the federal Department of Industry and Science, sponsored an international conference on community networking August 18 and 19, 1993, in Ottawa to talk about that. Over 150 people from across Canada and the United States attended. In this menu item you will find copies of many of the papers, and reports on the sessions of the conference. The Can-Freenet list provides a forum for discussion of Freenets in Canada.
