Viewing Graphics on CCN

As you all know, it is impossible to directly view graphics through CCN unless you are using a PAT (Public Access Terminal). However it is possible to download the graphics to your computer and view them from there.

Download the Graphics Viewer

The first thing you have to do is download the graphics viewer. Note that you only have to do this once. Go into the PDA (Public Download Area) by typing "gpda". Now chose the appropriate section for the type of Operating System you have, and then chose #2 - the Download Archives, and then chose Viewers.

Read the descriptions and find one that will display graphics (the most common types of graphics on the Internet are GIFs and JPEGs). Press D to download, and then chose the appropriate protocol - refer to your communication program's manual for information on which protocols it supports.

You may now have to decompress the files, especially if they are coming from FTP sites instead of World Wide Web pages. This can be done with PKZIP or WinZIP for PCs; StuffIt Expander for Macs. There are decompression programs for other computers in the PDA also. If you do not have one of these programs you can find them in the PDA as well - under Compression Programs. Refer to instructions within the compression program as to how to use it.

Download the Graphic

Go to the web page where the graphic is that you want to download. Now press * (shift-8). You will now see the graphics included as a link. Cursor down to the link and press D. Chose the correct protocol, and when it is finished you're ready to view it

View the Graphic

Go into your graphics viewer, open the graphic that you just downloaded, and it should pop up on your screen. Refer to the help for the graphics program on how to do this.
