ERCE:

Public Events:

If your group would be interested in holding a public ritual or other event, sponsored by ERCE, please contact us at ERCE email

If you are interested in contacting a local group of a particular Religion (Asatru, Druidism, Wicca, usw.) contact ERCE and we may be able to put you in touch with people.

Or come to the Meet-and-Greets at the Superstore community room on Barrington Street (down in the South End), from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Watch this space for details of the next meet-and-greet! Or join the ERCE email list to find out -- send a message to majordomo@chebucto.ns.ca, saying 'subscribe ERCE' (without the quotes) in the text of the message.

We encourage people also to start up their own groups, and we're very willing to help with this, give advice, help you plan rituals, recommend readings, have your group visit with us...

ERCE has people from many paths and traditions, and there's probably one of us who can assist you. In addition to ritual work, we have people who do counselling and other forms of ministry.

Public Events recently held:

Successful storytelling events, Tales of Wonder, Tales of Wisdom, were held February 21 and April 25 of 1998... We will do this again! Suggestions for other events ERCE might host are always welcome -- we're seeking more ways to make people aware of each other's traditions and cultures...

Here are some of the rituals we've sponsored:

  • Yule, Sunday December 20, 1998, at Great Spirit, Bedford Highway
The great celebration of the dark of the year. We had a Yule Boar (made of biscuit) on whose bristles people took their oaths... This was a mostly Ásatrú ritual coordinated by Fiskiörn Kindred, with input from some Celtic friends.

  • Lammas,Sunday August 2, at Chocolate Lake Park
This ritual for the first harvest was coordinated by Sage.
The following day there was a family picnic (Aug 3, holiday Monday), in Point Pleasant Park at Cambridge Battery, at 1:00 p.m.
  • Summer Solstice , coordinated by Andrew and Tracy. A fine event, by all accounts the writer has received!
  • Beltane Picnic! was held Sunday May 3 at Chocolate Lake Park. This was a Family picnic, with ritual organized by Mark and friends, and a maypole... Welcome the Spring!
  • Ostara held Saturday March 28, at Chocolate Lake Recreation Centre, Purcell's Cove Road, Halifax, conducted by Fiskiörn Kindred, as a Norse-Heathen ritual to welcome the coming of Spring. We planted seeds, which are growing strongly...
  • Yule, Dec 22, 1997, UU Church, Halifax NS, was organized and conducted by Shane and Singing-Grass. This wonderful ritual incorporated elements of Ásatú and Wiccan practice, to reflect their household faiths.
  • Samhain, Oct 31 and Nov 1, was an all-weekend event, coordinated by Stardust, that was according to all accounts both well planned and well carried out. Samhaim has its serious and its less serious sides, and both were well represented. Photographs available to view -- contact an ERCE member!
  • We did not hold a public event at the fall equinox. Many groups held their own private celebrations.
  • Lammas picnic and ritual for rain Held at Chocolate Lake, Halifax. The picnic was very good, though it poured! (After we did our rain-ritual, that is. This summer has been the driest on record, and it was not good for plants, earth, animals or people, so rain was much needed.) After we were all thoroughly soaked, we retired to an ERCE member's house to carry on talking and celebrating.
  • Atlantic Earth Festival, Sunset Ceremony for Earth. A ritual of songs, chants, drumming and dancing for Earth and the fruitfulness for the fields and woods, Saturday July 12. Many festival attendees joined us in our celebration!
  • Summer Solstice, on Sunday June 22, at Chocolate Lake. A beautiful ritual conducted by Pheonyx, celebrating the Oak King and Holly King.
  • Beltane, on Sunday, April 27, held at Chocolate Lake, conducted by Luna of Stardust Coven. A ceremony for Spring, followed by dancing around the Maypole. And while the ribbons tangled at the top, later they braided just beautifully.
  • Spring Equinox
  • , Sunday March 23 1997, at the Universalist Unitarian Church.
This was conducted by Cassandra and Orno of Stardust Coven, well attended and a pleasant introduction to the spring. Anyway, we think it should be spring!
  • Imbolc, February 1, at the performing Arts Studio, Grafton St.
This was conducted by Rowen and friends, as a Celtic-influenced Pagan ritual to honour Brigid and welcome the return of light that heralds the coming of Spring.
  • Yule Celebration, December 21, 1996 at the UU Church, Halifax, was conducted by Fiskiörn Kindred as an Ásatrú Yule, with a Yule-Log and Yule-Boar. Thanks to the CUUPS group for welcoming us to their space, and hosting this event. (The boar was made of biscuit, btw.)
  • Samhain Ritual, at Chocolate Lake, Sunday Oct. 27, was conducted by Sable Star Coven. The usual food-sharing followed.
  • Fall Equinox Ritual, at Chocolate Lake, Sunday Sept 22, conducted by Stardust Coven, and followed by a sharing of food. A very enjoyable event, and a good chance to meet other pagans within the area.
  • Summer Solstice Ritual , Thursday June 20. This went ahead as scheduled, and was a big success! Contact Little Mysteries Books, or ERCE, for details -- or see the writeup in the Chronicle Herald, Friday June 21, 1996. This was a ritual to celebrate the longest day, "midsomer" "litha" or midsummer, when the sun is highest in the sky. The ritual was conducted by one of the constituent groups of ERCE.
  • ERCE includes many groups, and each one holds different beliefs and conducts its rituals in a different manner. At open circle rituals, observers are welcome, so long as they are prepared to take part in the celebration.
