Chebucto Community Net
Training

Welcome to Chebucto Community Net Training. Please browse through our objectives to get a sense of what we're all about.

Please check this page regularly for announcements if you want to have up to date information on what courses are currently scheduled.

Chebucto Community Net offers free training to volunteers, IPs (Information Providers), and users. Like many of Chebucto Community Net's services, training sessions are coordinated, developed, and conducted by volunteers. CCN is also grateful to the organizations which have graciously allowed us to use their facilities for training sites.

Course Descriptions

Beginner Training

The Halifax Regional Library system offers a course called "Log In to Chebucto Community Net" at their Spring Garden (Halifax) location. The courses are held on Tuesdays, from 12:00 - 1:30 pm. Please register in advance by calling Ken Burke at 490-5718. This course is aimed at people with little or no experience with computers, who would like to learn about Chebucto Community Net and what it holds for them. You do NOT have to have a Chebucto Community Net account of your own to take this course - but you can register for an account during the course if you wish.

User Training

Here are the courses which are currently being offered for people who already have a Chebucto Community Net account, and therefore have a Login id and password.

The name of each course is linked to a short description of the material covered in the course. Each course takes two hours.

The three courses listed above are held several times a year.

On a much less frequent basis, typically once or twice per year, we offer:

This workshop covers the basics of creating files using HyperText Markup Language (HTML). It is primarily intended for Users who wish to add to their 'profile' on Chebucto Community Net. If you are intending to become an Information Provider Editor (IPE) and are new to HTML, may find this workshop is a useful to basic HTML.

Have a look at the Self Study Index, for training tutorials on various topics.

Current Course Schedule

In the past few months, we have had very few people signing up for our series of three training classes for the basic Chebucto service. As a result, we are not scheduling classes in advance. We will keep a waiting list for each of the classes. When there are enough people interested to make it feasible to hold a class, we will pick a date a few weeks ahead, and notify everyone on the waiting list. Those on the waiting list will have the opportunity to register for the classes before we announce them to all Chebucto users.

Remember, Chebucto Community Net is completely dependent on volunteers for both training sites and trainers. We are always looking for more training sites and more volunteers to be trainers.
