February 23rd, 2013
                   Bedford Players Workshop Series hosts:

A Stage Movement Workshop with Susan Barratt.

This workshop will introduce actors to the art of theatre movement. So
much of what we communicate both on and off the stage is transmitted via
our bodies and our physicality that it cannot be overlooked. How we
stand, where we stand, what movements we make (or choose not to make) and
how they are executed - all of these things and many others have meaning
and send a message to the audience and to the other actors on stage.

This will be a practical workshop - you will be up on your feet and
trying things, not sitting writing notes! We will cover some of the
basics of Laban theory, and explore non-verbal acting and physical
character development. Participants are asked to dress in comfortable
clothes for ease of movement, and to bring water.

Susan Barratt is a native of Montreal, living and teaching in Halifax
since 1999. She has a BFA in Dance from Concordia University and is a
Certified Laban Movement Analyst. She teaches in the Theatre Faculty of
Acadia & Dalhousie Universities. Her specialty is making the LMA
material accessible to non-dancers. She has taught Laban movement in
many contexts both formal and informal - with children & adults, dancers,
actors, musicians, and interested lay-people - for over 20 years. For
the last 10 years her work has primarily been with Actors and acting
students, both at the university and the conservatory levels.

We will have only one session; the schedule for the day will be as
follows:
