Pictou County Naturalist Club Meeting - New Glasgow Library (new =
Community Room)
When: Tue, October 5, 7:00pm - 8:30pm
Where: New Glasgow Public Library (new Community Room, (ground floor)), =
New Glasgow, Nova Scotia (map)
Description:=20
Guest speaker for the first meeting of the season will be Dennis =
Garratt, Land Securement Coordinator for the Nova Scotia Nature Trust. =
Garratt will give an illustrated talk on the goals of the Trust, recent =
projects and how the public can donate land to this non-profit =
organization that preserves the natural heritage of Nova Scotia. About =
Dennis Garratt: Hailing from England, Dennis has been interested in =
wildlife since from an early age, developing a passion for birdwatching, =
which took him the length and breadth of the British Isles (from the =
Isles of Scilly in the south to Shetland in the north) and abroad; and =
recently, to Nova Scotia. Working for the Scottish Wildlife Trust was =
Dennis's first break into "higher level" conservation work. He worked =
with the Scottish Trust for 11 years and at one point was jointly =
managing all the wildlife reserves across Scotland, an experience he =
greatly enjoyed. After Scotland, Dennis moved due south to the county of =
Hampshire where he worked for the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife =
Trust for 10 years. From the south of England to Nova Scotia is another =
big leap for Dennis and he is looking forward to the new experiences it =
will offer=
