I stopped for lunch in Amherst a couple weeks ago, and of course, there were lots of Ring-billed and a few Herring Gulls begging for french fries in the parking lot at the now defunct Burger King. One juvenile Herring Gull caught my attention, as it had a green leg band with the letters "K48" in white on the band.

Did some Googling and found it had likely been banded on Appledore Island, Maine earlier this summer. My suspicion was confirmed today when I received an email from Julie Ellis at Tufts University (Massachusetts). It was banded July 15th.
