OCT. 6, 2010 - At high tide (noon), the power line across the
Gaspereau River at Hortonville only hosted 2 double-crested cormorants.
I visited the Windsor sewage ponds at a half-hour after high tide:
300 Canada geese; 10 American wigeons as the only notable ducks
(would not have been visible if the gate hadn't been open for me to
illegally drive in); the only shorebirds were 6 black-bellied plovers
with a single possible red knot?; and, among oodles of gulls of the
usual kinds, I checked over about 30 close ring-billed gulls for wing-
tags -- one adult had a strange-looking tag? on its right wing that
looked like a piece of white material (plastic) that was rolled up
into an open tube around a single feather or group of feathers -- no
numbers on the tag, and the gull would not move to show me its other
wing -- the legs and feet were not visible in the lawn grass.
P.S. For the tagged ring-billed gull (pink tag with '398' on left
wing) seen there and reported on Oct. 3/10 by Richard Stern, the
digital date ('1/7/10') (argh) given to Richard is now known to have
been January 7, 2010, for the banding/tagging in Massachusetts.
