Hi Steve
This would be a real good one for our group. Anyone who has seen the =
hoards of shorebirds at Marys Pt. in NB
realize the importance this lady had in setting aside parts of the Bay =
of Fundy for conservation of sandpipers etc.
cheers
Ken

  The official Halifax launch of

Sanctuary: The Story of Naturalist Mary Majka
  Deborah Carr

Mary Majka, a Polish-Canadian immigrant, survived personal tragedy and =
incarceration at a forced labour camp during World War II to become a =
pioneer in Canada=92s environmental movement, an advocate for the =
protection of wildlife, and a proponent for heritage preservation. She =
hosted the children=92s TV show =91Have You Seen?=92, started the first =
children=92s nature centre in a national park, and fought to create the =
internationally acclaimed Mary=92s Point Western Hemispheric Shorebird =
Reserve on the Bay of Fundy. Mary=92s selfless actions have served as an =
example to others, inspiring them to excel in new directions. Here, =
perhaps, lies her greatest legacy and lesson: that our collective =
survival depends on caring for that which sustains us . . . not only our =
past and planet, but also our relationships with each other.

Written in a style that honours Mary=92s own penchant for =
storytelling, Sanctuary: The Story of Naturalist Mary Majka gives full =
expression to the monument that is Mary Majka=92s life and her =
passionate commitment to preserving the environment for generations to =
come. Sanctuary engages the reader in a shared remembering, as well as =
providing a vivid glimpse into the Mary of today: aging, flawed, and =
feisty.

all Canadians. Books will be available for purchase, and Deborah will be =
