Hi Annabelle,

The easiest way to report the band here in Canada is to call CWS's Canadian Bird Banding Office's toll-free phone number:
1-800-327-2263 (1-800-327-BAND)

Or you can fill out the web form found here:
http://www.cws-scf.ec.gc.ca/nwrc-cnrf/default.asp?lang=en&n=8D82A45D

In your case the information they will be interested in is the following:
1.numbers, in sequence, appearing on the band
2.date on which the bird was found
4.exact location the bird was found
5.species of the bird
6.that the bird was dead
7.how the bird died

If you prefer, you can also mail the information to the following address:
Canadian Bird Banding Office
National Wildlife Research Centre
Canadian Wildlife Service
1125 Colonel By Drive (Raven Road)
Ottawa, Ontario
K1A 0H3

As Linda suggested, you should receive a certificate of appreciation from the Bird Banding Office documenting the bird's banding information as well as the information of your finding it.

All the best,

Lance
