Randy's note mentions saw-whet and long-eared owls on Bon Portage Is. =20=

in autumn -- just to clarify, long-eareds were regular but many fewer =20=

than the saw-whets -- and getting the long-eareds out of mist-nets =20
was a real challenge in the dark by flashlight -- at least two people =20=

are necessary, and one time I was holding a flashlight for poor Tom =20
Herman who got severely taloned by one owl who didn't appreciate the =20
fact that we were trying to help it (arguable, I know)!

(Those night-time netting operations were also for the nesting =20
Leach's storm-petrels.)

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville
