Hi:
In Kingston: we filed our final 10/11 PFW report yesterday.
The 52 Common Redpolls + 14 A. Goldfinch made it exceptional for the last f=
ew years.
Today:
1240: One Barred Owl in flight=2C near the nest box=2C north of our home.
=20
On 221 heading for Spa Springs=2C 1 Red-tailed Hawk.
=20
Phinney's Pond at Victoriavale remains approx. 2/3 ice covered=2C however=
=2C not too cool for a determined Hooded Merganser pair=2C the male in this=
pair was very aggressive=2C fending off an equally handsome male=3B no fur=
ther challenges during our stay=2C two Mallard pairs were keeping close com=
pany near the open shoreline.
=20
At East Margaretsville's DU property=2C at least 8 pairs of Mallards=2C pa=
ddling or on comfortable looking=2C shoreline in the dense=2C dry=2C grass.
=20
at 1400: Benign weather at Port George and Cottage Cove: at each location w=
e saw one pair of Harlequin Ducks.=20
Adult Surf and White-wing Scoters=2C Common Eiders were along the entire sh=
oreline. 1 Common Loon=2C 1 pair=2C Red-breasted Mergansers near the Port G=
eorge Lighthouse.
=20
North of Middleton=2C at Bent's farm=2C I am almost certain of seeing=2C wi=
th binoculars=2C the Yellow-headed Blackbird near the top of a leafless=2C =
tree/bush that protruded above what appeared to be a dirt pile just beyond =
a long=2C metal cattle building south of the residence. I was about to set =
up the scope when the approach of a large tractor scattered all the birds. =
It was most like Sibley's=2C adult female or 1st winter male!=20
Cheers=2C Barbara and Pat 		 	   		  =
