Those scaups are Greater. You will notice how round their heads are. To
remember which is which... "G" has a round letter. The Greater scaup has a
round head. "L" is a squarish letter so Lesser Scaups have squarish
heads... Really nice photos of the mink, black scoter, and scaups...

Subject: [NatureNS] Eastern Passage Ducks

April 4, 2011
Eastern Passage, NS

The following ducks were seen at Eastern Passage this morning. They were
feeding with a raft of about 30 Common Eiders.

Black Scoters - 4M and 2F
Lesser Scaup - 4M and 15F ( at least I think they are lesser and not
greater!)

Also on the Shearwater Flyer Trail near the 3 km marker; an American Mink
crossed the trail from the nearby frozen pond on the south side4 and went
into the woods on the north side.

I added several pictures of the above to my gallery for those interested.
