Hi all
Here are a few nature notes from Pictou Co.
Rick Ferguson had a couple of Greater Yellowlegs and a Blue-winged Teal on Apr. 22 at the old Drummond Mine site in Westville.
On Apr. 23, Charlie Kendell had 12 Greater Yellowlegs at Quarry I.

On April 24 Charlie had 1 Pied-billed Grebe , 1 Wood Duck, 2 E. Phoebes and several YB Sapsuckers at Willard Fraser Pond in MacLellan's Brook.

In the late afternoon and evening of April 24, Chalie and I scouted out the Protection Rd. for our last Owl Route in the Tony Mills area of Pictou Co. We went to
Waterside PP first and saw a single Willet there as well as several (4) Savannah Sparrows. The Ipswich that was present last week was not re-located.
On Battist Rd. we heard then saw an American Bittern. There were several Tree Sparrows still present in the ditch over-looking the beaver dam there.
Protection Rd. was driveable although there was abit of a lake in one section. There have been years this owl route could not be done because of the road.
We heard singing Hermit Thrushes all along this route as well as Woodcock, Snipe and Barred Owls. all calling and displaying at dusk.
Unfortunately we were not prepared to do the survey that night as it had been very windy when we started out. However, the winds died down and we regrtetted not been prepared to do the survey as it was a great evening. Betweeen Protection Rd. back to Pictou we heard and saw 15+ Woodcock and 2 Wilson's Snipe.

On April 25, I had a Tree Swallow in my yard this morning and there are still at least 4 Tree Sparrows present.
At Grants Lake, a Pied-billed Grebe was calling. I heard 2 Winter Wrens at Centredale. I saw 2 Gray Jays at Perch L., but alas the forest in the area I saw the Goshawk a few days ago was being cut.

I had 2 Mourning Cloaks in the Maple L. area and the Long-tailed Duck was still present on the lake- the only duck there today.

There had been an obvious push of some birds the last couple of days - Flickers, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Hermit Thrushes, Palm and Yellow-rumped Warblers.
Also had s Brown Creepers in Centredale and another at Maple L.- all were singing.

I had my first Mayflowers in bloom at Perch L. and the Coltsfoot has reached high bloom with roadsides yellow with the flowers in Elgin-Hopewell.
A Cabbage-White type butterfly was seen swinging through my yard this afternoon.
cheers
Ken
