Observations from 8:30 to 9:15 p.m. (Herald Sunset 8:39). Sky all overcast, half with high bright clouds and half dark clouds, calm, warm, 21 C. Four swifts entered chimney at 8:55 p.m., and seven more right at 9:00. At about 8:40 or 8:45, two swifts buzzed the top of the chimney but did not enter. I had my hopes set higher than the measly total of 11 counted swifts tonight, since the past two days should have been excellent for the migratory movement of swifts in the region, after quite a stretch of days of quite cool and rainy weather. At 9:10 p.m. a single bat (probably a little brown bat) flew past the nature centre.
