Upper Falmouth farmhouse Cheryl Rutledge ----------------------------- MAY 28, 2011 - Robie Tufts Nature Centre in Wolfville at dusk: 62+ chimney swifts counted as they dropped into the chimney. Observers were Jane & Fraser MacGregor (of Glace Bay) and Jim Wolford. (The MacGregors counted 45 chimney swifts there last night.) Observations tonight were from 8:40 to 9:24 p.m. (Sunset was 8:48 in the Herald). Sky totally overcast/cloudy, calm, warm, 22 C., visibility good. Again no "show" (just frequent calls heard and very high passes by a few to several swifts) until 9:00 p.m., just before the big descent started. At 9:01 25 swifts dropped in, then 15 +5 at 9:05, then 11 more gradually in by 9:10, and finally 3+1+1+1 very gradually until the last one seen dropping was at 9:24, when it was too dark to even look any more.
