JUNE 16, 2011 - There is a sick or dying red oak? on the lawn a bit
south of Wolfville's Main St., north of University Hall ("the White
House" on campus). Many branches toward the top of the tree are
mostly leafless, with small and conspicuous clusters of leaves only
at the ends of the branches -- very eye-catching.

In mid-afternoon, while walking just north of Univ. Hall, Acadia
Univ., a calling crow aggressively flew from a small tree and closely
passed by me and, while still calling presumed alarm notes, a couple
of other crows were attracted from the north. The aggressive crow
kept calling, and all three crows then flew overhead a bit, but they
got diverted when an adult bald eagle just happened to be flying over
the campus; the crows escorted it to the west without actively
harassing it. I presume that first crow was a parent of a nearby
juvenile or nest of same, but I didn't search.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.
