It was an overcast night and end to a cool day- (in fact at one point I resorted to wearing gloves along the Big I. shoreline earlier in the day). The chimney was surrounded by a nice flock when I arrived and before I could even get my notebook out, they started down the chimney about 8:53, much earlier than I would have predicted from past years..
