I am reminded of a story I was told about rats on Cape Sable Island =
in Shelburne County - according to my source of information there were =
no rats on Sable Island until the causeway was buiilt. Before all of =
the fill was in place they saw a rat jumping from one rock to another in =
order to be the first one to get there.
Believe it or not.

Yes there are now skunks, porcupines, and raccoons in cape breton. =
They were able to come across the causeway when the toll booth was taken =
down and it no longer cost anything to come to CB.=20

Hi All,

Most of the body was gone and there were lots of carrion =

hair. Because the body was quite small I think it may be a juvenile. =
There was no obvious cause of death but finding it on the side of the =
road seems a good clue. =20
Both DNR and CBHNP websites say there are no skunks in CB and =
I can't remember any other documented observations of CB skunks on =
naturens or other N.S. natural history sites so the question is not only =
when did they get to CB but how did it get to the northern tip of CB =
without observation? Perhaps it hitched a ride in a vehicle or maybe =
they've been here for awhile and no one has noticed.
If anyone is interested in having the carcass for study I can =
arrange for delivery. All the best.
