** THIS WEEK'S SKY AT A GLANCE, AUGUST 12-20

On Friday night, August 12, the annual Perseid=20
meteor shower peaks late in the night, but the=20
light of the practically full Moon fills the sky=20
for the entire night and will hide all but the brightest meteors.

On Saturday, August 13, the Moon will go into its=20
Full Phase meaning we will see the moon for the=20
duration of the night to make for bright moonlit=20
nights. Expect higher high tides and lower low=20
tides which will be significant at this period of shorebird activity.

On Saturday, August 13 the Sun will rise at 6:21=20
am and set at 20:34. On Saturday, August 20, the=20
sun will rise at 6:30 a.m. and set at 20:22.

This Week's Planet Roundup:

Mercury and Venus are hidden in the glare of the Sun.

Mars (magnitude +1.4) rises around 3 a.m. By dawn=20
it's in good view in the east with a birding scope.

Jupiter (magnitude =962.5) rises in the=20
east-northeast around midnight. By early dawn=20
Jupiter shines very high in the southeast to south.

Saturn (magnitude +0.9) is sinking ever lower in=20
the west-southwest at dusk. Binoculars will help.
