The White Underwing Moth, Catocala relicta is one of our most striking and 
luckily most common underwing moths , a family of late summer-fall species 
noted for their camouflaged forewings and often brilliant hindwings. There 
are about 20 species in Nova Scotia and this is the only all black and white 
species
