Regarding the two yellowledgs species, I have added a bit from
Wolfville Harbour as follows:

Wolfville Harbour roosting shorebirds at high tide along rocks below
railroad tracks: 2 willets, about 18 greater yellowlegs, about 7
lesser yellowlegs, 1 spotted sandpiper, 31 "peeps" including 30
semipalmated sandpipers and 1 least sandpiper. It was a great treat
today to have great and close views of both greater and lesser
yellowlegs together (with no camera, of course!), since I still find
it difficult to diagnose these two species. Two features that help
me with the greater yellowlegs are (1) their loud and repeated alarm
notes, and (2) their tendency to wade into or land upon deep water
and "swim" a bit, compared with the quieter and more shore-bound
lesser yellowlegs.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville
