Hi Terry,

The Nova Scotia Institute of Science recently published an issue
devoted to the flora, fauna, intertidal invertebrates and fishes of
Scatarie Island. The table of contents is available online:

	http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/Science/NSIS/content_vol45_1.html

The contents are not, although they are available from the Institute
in hardcopy for $9.

Clearly the fact that some 10,000 litres of diesel oil, lubricants and
oily bilge water have been recovered from the ship is very good. The
paint on the ship is lead-based and the electrical system probably has
PCBs in it, which is less than desirable. Also, less than desirable is
having a shipwreck in what is a protected wilderness area. If it
breaks up pieces of it could become hazards to navigation for
fisherman around the island. The province is clearly concerned and is
lobbying the federal government to take action to remove the ship and
has also launched a lawsuit against the owners of the tugboat for the
costs of salvage and any environmental cleanup.

Cheers,

Chris
