=A0Out of sight, Out of Mind! Just because nature will find a way to try to=
deal with it does not mean it is a good thing. =A0In Florida, we were told=
that one of the best places to see a wide variety of birds was the local l=
andfill. =A0In Texas, they told us that the only place to see the Tamaulipa=
s crow in America=A0was at the dump.=A0I'm not sure that throwing our garba=
ge overboard (whether it is a decommissioned ship or a Tim Horton's cup) is=
a good idea, environmental or aesthetic wise!=0A=0AAs an aside, Nick and I=
went up to the Gaspe' region to visit friends and we found a lovely birdin=
g trail at Pointe a la Croix where you can find 100 species in a small but =
amazing trail. =A0Just go to Rue de l'Ecole and at the end is the entrance.=
=A0Very good for birding, very good for photography!=0A=0ATuma Young=0A=A0=

=0AMiner=0A=0A=A0=A0 The M.V. Miner wreck off =0AScatarie Island Wilderness=
Area? Is this truly an environmental issue? Or merely =0Aan aesthetic one?=
The ship is an empty bulk carrier, not a loaded oil =0Atanker.=A0According=
to=A0the extensive media coverage, there has been no =0Aleakage from it, a=
nd=A0the small supply of oil for its generator and its =0Adirty ballast wat=
er had been pumped out. If this is correct and there are no =0Aother contam=
inants on board, why not just leave it where it is and let it =0Agradually =
break up?=0A=A0=A0 It will shade out=A0the =0Aseaweeds directly under its h=
ull, but provide new substrate for all kinds of =0Amarine animals and plant=
s. Eventually it will break up, like the M.V. Fury on a =0Ashoal near Lisco=
mb Island (Guysborough Co.), which ran aground in a hurricane in =0A1965.=
=A0The Fury is the province's other recent large shipwreck. It is well =0Ak=
nown to local sea kayakers. My vote =0Ais to remove any remaining pollutants=
from the ship but to leave the wreck to =0Aits fate. =0A=A0=A0 Dusan Soude=

This must surely be a concern for the wildlife in the area. Can =0A anyone=
enlighten us on what flora and fauna might be at risk if there is any =0A =
contamination, be it fuel, oil or any other waste=A0from the =0A wreck?=
