Incidentally, East Hants is going through a planning study of the = Long Lake - Herbert River corridor, triggered by a proposed huge = recreational/residential development on Long Lake, the last undeveloped = and undammed lake in the area. The development was approved, but its = proponent backed down due to economic factors.=20 A not insignificant chunk of Long Lake's circa 40 km shoreline is = Crown land, proposed for protection under the "12 per cent by 2015" = initiative. The municipality also owns land on the lake, which was = originally purchased for a park. Another nearby block of Crown land, = called Devils Jaw, bordering on Herbert River, is also proposed for = protection...
