Took a bag of seed mixture for the ducks & widgeons & a separate bag of canned salmon, chopped beef suet, hulled raw sunflower seeds, white millet & corn meal for the Coot & Gallinule.

What I saw 1st, though was a big orange cat down on the gravel bar stalking the birds which were plenty far away. Regardless, I shooed away the cat & 1st pour the duck food onto the gravel bar. But abit away & within the reeds I spread the salmon mixture. All the ducks, widgeons & coot were right there but Vogel, in typical behavior was swimming out in the reeds and not in any hurry to join the group. But it looked fine when it finally swam up. Am wondering if the food for the Gallinule should be placed within the reeds & not the gravel bar just because a cat, or any other bird, crow, seagull which would also be attracted to it.

On another note, I had reported to me that a homeowner on Slayter Street here in Dartmouth, has had an otter raiding his fish pond in his backyard eating all his goldfish this week. Apparently it even chased his dog! I know Slayter St. does back onto Brightwood Golf Course. Maybe that's how it found its way there? I just thought that was very interesting!

Sincerely,
Gayle MacLean
