Hi All,

I haven't posted an update for awhile, on either the Common Gallinule at Red Bridge Pond or the Am. Coot by Banook Canoe Club here in Dartmouth.
They have been present every day that I have checked.
Today, both Hans Toom and I were at Red Bridge Pond and we left food. The area was very iced in but there is still a fairly large area of open water. Took awhile and I was just about to leave when Hans alerted me that the Gallinule had come out from its hiding spot through the reeds and vegetation. I wondered if it would survive the freezing rain or end up getting iced in among the the reeds where it hides, but there it was, not in the water, but walking and standing very upright and appearing alert and bright this morning before it disappeared back into the reeds.
The American Coot by Banook Canoe Club was there and looking for food this morning too, it came running when I put the food down.

I have to say, I was worried about them both & was so relieved to see them this morning.

Other bird news from the backyard, have had 2 male & one female Cardinals visiting my feeders and quite a flock of Robins have been around on and off for a week, at least.

Sincerely,

Gayle MacLean
Dartmouth
