Hi there,

Yesterday morning (20 March) I noticed an American Elm in bloom on
Oxford Street. I've just done a quick review of some old emails,
and find that I have reported Elm Trees in bloom on 22 April 2004, 21
April 2007, 24 March 2010 ( a warm, dry, early spring, much like this
year), and 17 April 2011. So, this is probably the earliest I have
seen them, though I would have to check more field notebooks to be sure.

I looked more carefully today, and found several examples, but
perhaps only 10% or so of the elms are in bloom so far.

	Cheers,

	Patricia L. Chalmers
	Halifax
