Hello,

There is a multitude of binocular models available in various configuration
and ranging in price from the very cheap to extremely expensive. Thus, as
mentioned by Ulli, indicating a price range you are looking at would be
very helpful in allowing forum members to make specific and useful
suggestions.

I will, however, make the following suggestions:

1. Given the 8-10 age range, consider mid-sized binoculars (30-35 mm
objectives), but avoid the compact designs.

2. 6.5 to 8.5 magnification.

3. As these are 8-10 year olds, consider the field of view. 350 feet
minimum, but aim for 400 feet at 1000 yards.

4. Ensure the minimum interpupillary distance of the binocular will
accommodate 8 year olds.

5. Avoid zoom models at all cost.

6. Give serious consideration to the warranty.

7. Get a waterproof model.

8. Get BaK-4 prisms. Avoid BaK-7 or models where not mentioned.

9. Get fully multi-coated optics

10. In you get a roof model, ensure they are phase corrected.

11. If all else equal, favour a wide neck strap over a narrow one.

Note: Roof models are more expensive to manufacture, therefore the price
of the least expensive usable model will be more than that of an equivalent
porro.

Hope the above helps. If you give us an indication of price, perhaps
more recommendations re specific models will be suggested.

By the way, some manufacturers have a search tool on their website allowing
you to find dealers in your area.

Best regards,

Ron Arsenault
