In addition to drawing attention to this natural phenomenon (which we too often miss if we sleep late, or else take for granted), there is a serious element to this event, drawing attention to the dangers that songbirds face and the ongoing decline that many species are experiencing due to habitat loss, pesticides, and climate change.
