Hello, July 2, 2012
I recall hearing in the 70s (?) that Skunks will raid Bank Swallow =
nests and this both decreases nesting success and drives Swallows to =
nest elsewhere.

Is it possible that Skunks or Raccoons are involved in decline of =
Bank Swallows ?=20

Subject: [NatureNS] Bank Swallow Colony Deserted

I've been observing a colony of Bank Swallows near our cottage on low =
red cliffs on a point on Hillsbourough Bay at West Keppoch, on the south =
side of PEI.

20 years ago there were hundreds of birds coming and going to the nest =
tunnels. This year there are none regrettably.

As small consolation there several nesting pairs of Belted Kingfishers =
along the 3km of shoreline that encompasses our area.

I've also noticed that European Starlings have started to occupy and =
enlarge many of the tunnels.=20
