* "Louise’s own account of this remarkable event is related in one of
her books, “To Whom The Wilderness Speaks.” The entire book may be read
on-line at Google Books (click here)..." ...where you can also see some
of the illustrations drawn for this book by Aleta.

We met Louise, who was a really serious and dedicated naturalist, who
worked on the real scientific problems her subjects posed, when Aleta
went up to their place in Pimisi Bay to draw these illustrations. I
understand that she got into ornithology through correspondence with
Percy Taverner, the curator of ornithology at the National Museum of
Canada, back in the days when curators had the time to individually
write letters in reply to inquiries.
