St. Johns Wort grew here and there on our farm back in Ontario. It seemed t=
o do well in the same oldfield meadows where goldenrod thrived. For about t=
hirty years, I kept a large goat herd and a couple of horses that pastured i=
n those fields and never had a problem as they tended to leave the St Johns W=
ort, Goldenrod, Yarrow, Milkweed and Asters - which suited me just fine as t=
hose were the plants upon which the insects and spiders which I studied and p=
hotographed did their thing. In my livestock books, the main warning concer=
ning St. Johns Wort was that it could cause photosensitivity. Actually, a n=
umber of plants will do so, but I guess it is particularly known for that re=
action. The plant is also used as a medicinal, but with photosensitivity as=
 a side effect.
