The only Asian ones I have eaten have been dried and processed so =
probably not comparable. I do prefer many seaweeds right off the rocks =
rather than dried, although nori does have a pleasant, salty taste =
dried. It is also much easier to dry than dulse because a bit of rain or =
other moisture doesn't affect the quality as it does with dulse.=20
Even though the nori is only 1 cell thick, the native species that grow =
here are thicker than the Asian species and are not as desirable in the =
Asian market.

Have you eaten some of the Porphyra from this region? Are they =
comparable to Asia species in terms of their flavour?
Cheers!

Gerald,
try Irish Moss (Chondrus crispus). The fresh stuff, picked from =
rocks in the lower intertidal zone. Many years ago, I spent nearly two =
years growing it commercially... Sea Lettuce (Ulva lactuca) and =
Enteromorpha are also edible, but somewhat tasteless and textureless.
