Subject: Red-bellied Woodpecker and More on the Alder Flycatcher

Our male Red-bellied Woodpecker is back after an absence of two months.

This is further to my post of an Alder Flycatcher this morning. It was =
suggested by Ian McLaren that photos might help rule out Dusky =
Flycatcher. Getting photos will not be easy, but I can add some =
descriptive details from my ten second sighting. The flycatcher had a =
darkish, dusky look to the head and back, light chest and underparts, =
strong white wing bars and no visible eye ring or lores. It was small, =
much smaller than any phoebe or wood-pewee. The lack of a visible eye =
ring does not rule out Alder Flycatcher since this bird's eye ring is =
weak and can be hard to see at times. There was no tail bobbing.

I should have taken photos through the window rather than foolishly =
stepping onto the deck which caused my flycatcher to skedattle.=20

Hans
