Hi Again, Nov 24, 2012
At the risk of being repetitive, and just in case the point did not =
get across, mowing a perennial plant in the spring will almost always =
increase vigor; a root system fully stocked with reserves feeding few =
growing points yields impressive regrowth and outstanding health.=20
To weaken or kill a woody perennial one should cut near ground level =
after reserves in the root system have been depleted by the flush of =
summer growth and (if possible) just before photosynthates would start =
to be stored in the root system. For MFR I would cut after hips are at =
least half size but before September 1.=20

Not everyone has the time or equipment to keep MFR under control. =
Here on our one acre town lot I may have to hire someone to come in with =
a bush cutter next spring to hack it back again. I have hacked it back =
to the ground several years and it just keeps coming back.=20
